Finally...Kangaroos

We arrived in Hunter Valley today after a long trip from the Blue Mountains. It took us twice as long! We were detoured due to an accident and our GPS took us on back roads…dirt ones , windy and very narrow…through National Park, down the Convict trail, following a beautiful river with a ferry crossing, and through a Eucalyptus forest. Signs warned us that we should proceed with caution and watch for kangaroos, wallabies, koalas but we saw nothing but cows! It was a great trip and we felt like explorers. Unfortunately, I have found that even in the Southern Hemisphere I do still get car sick!

So we arrived safely in Hunter Valley which is the oldest wine area in Australia. There are hundreds of small boutique type wineries here and our plans are to explore them today. We are staying at the Tower Lodge on the Tower Estate and it is an interesting small hotel which reminds me of a European castle. There are only 12 rooms here and although it is full we haven’t seen too many people. Nice and private.

So anyhow…the Kangaroos!!! We arrived, checked in and headed out for some lunch. There in the field across from the restaurant were the kangaroos. There were 3-4 groups scattered about ub the fields all munching away. I wasn’t close enough for a picture so the sign above will have to work for now! Honestly, it was so exciting to see those animals. Now to get closer!
