Future Plans

We leave Sydney tomorrow for the "hinterlands" and we are unsure of our internet service. Katoomba is a small town and has one free wifi spot! I've checked a few other towns we'll be visiting and it looks like it may be hit or miss for awhile. So here's our plan...

Off to the Blue Mountains and the town of Katoomba. Then over to Hunter Valley, one of the wine regions where we plan to check out the wine cellars. Next north to Glen Innes where we will be fossicking for gemstones. Then on to the rainforest in the north of New South Wales and then over to the Gold Coast. We'll be staying in Surfers' Paradise. That will take us another week or so. Most of our travels will be in the state of New South Wales! This is big country here.

Got my last look at the Opera House this afternoon. What a structure and it has a great story to go with it. Did you know it took over 20 years to build it and the architect who designed it left before it was finished? Seems there was a parting of ways at some point. This dutch architect never saw the finished building!

I do hope we can keep in touch. Stayed tune for postings just in case!

Manly Beach

We had a great day visiting Manly Beach. It was a short ferry ride across the harbor and a block or two to walk and we were there. Lots of nice shops and restaurants to keep us busy for a few hours. It was a bit too cold for the beach but surfers in wetsuits were loving it!

Tour of Sydney

We had a great tour of Sydney today. We spent the afternoon traveling around the city with a guide and saw harbors, beaches, parks, and landmarks. Our guide gave us a history lesson of Australia and we learned lots about the first settlers/convicts. I was surprised to learn that convicts were sent to Australia for over 80 years! The youngest convict sent was 9 years old. Imagine spending 253 days in the hull of a ship never seeing the light of day.

Enjoy the photos of the harbors, the city, the Opera House...again, and Bondi Beach. Tomorrow we're taking a water taxi to Manly Beach!

Queen Victoria Building

We finally purchased internet services at the hotel. Here's a brief collection of photos from he Queen Victoria Building. This is a beautiful historical building that has been converted to a shopping mall. No need to shop here...the stained glass, the tile floors, the dome ceiling are much more interesting.

Hello from Cafe Capprico

Here we are at another free WiFi spot. Just so you know they have wonderful coffee here!

Yesterday was spent walking all over Sydney. We checked out China Town, Darling Harbor, Patty Market, Shopping at the Queen Victoria Building, and The Rocks again.

The pictures shows the shopping mall at QVB. It's a beautiful old building that has been converted to a shopping area.

More later...

Hello From McDonald's-Sydney

Day 2 and wireless is a problem!!! Daily rate is $30.00 at our hotel so I have opted for the free wireless at McDonalds!

Our first day was great with a visit to the Opera House and a local Market in the Rocks area. Fun but jet lag set in early and we were asleep by 6:00pm.
